Composite materials and brominated compounds

Epoxy resins & composite materials are more and more used for applications requiring high heat resistance combined with high mechanical properties. To meet this use, it is necessary to increase thermal stability. However, the increase in the thermal stability (Tg) of an epoxy resin usually leads to a decrease in its mechanical properties.

We have developed a new brominated epoxy resin formulation to modify the glass transition temperature without impacting its mechanical characteristics (tensile strength, Modulus and elongation). By mixing a specific bromine-based epoxy compound with a common basic epoxy resin (DGEBA), we increase the glass transition temperature by 10 to 40°C (according to DSC and DMA measurement).

This allows the use of epoxy resins for applications requiring high heat resistance : structural adhesives, composite materials.

This new resin can be used in multiple processes : RTM, LRI, Vacuum bag, Wet-lay-up...
