New roles for IT Equipment Managers and Installed Base Managers in companies

With the health crisis, most companies have accelerated their digital transformation to allow their employees to work off-site from all types of devices and securely access company applications and data, sometimes hosted off-site themselves.

In this post-Covid context, the professions of IT Equipment Manager, Installed Base Administrator and Network Manager will need to evolve and reinvent themselves.

Context

As a result of the health crisis, more than 50% of employees work from home, making remote work and hybrid modes a new norm in many companies.

Under this impetus, digitalization, the move to the cloud and the transition to SaaS are accelerating, and with them the multiplication of entry points into the office environment and the company's network infrastructures. From the need to ensure cybersecurity to increased bandwidth consumption, enterprise information systems must evolve, and with them CIO organizations.

Prior to Covid, three clear roles were defined for CIOs managing devices connected to network and IT systems:

The IT Fleet Administrator: manages and oversees the operational maintenance of the company's IT assets and fixed phone lines (managing hardware, software, services and on-site connectivity).
The Mobile Fleet Manager: purchases and manages phones, lines and SIM cards, monitors OS updates and manages user profiles (applications, profiles, settings).
The Network and Infrastructure Administrator: manages identity and access, security, infrastructure (servers, network resources, etc.), as well as the cloud, business applications and the base of each workstation.
