Insulation is one of the most critical element of a Medium Voltage equipment. An insulation breakdown can cause asset failure which is a major safety hazard for operators and could have significant impact on MV network operations (Eg: shutdowns, fires, explosion).
Partial discharge is a well-known phenomenon that can damage the insulation over-time and lead to major failure.
Many methods and devices exist today to monitor partial discharge. Existing solutions could be inaccurate, complex to install or to configure, and often requires expert’s skills to analyse and assess the measurements.
