Since drones first appeared in the civilian domain, there have been increasing cases of
drone flights over sensitive or civilian sites (mini-drones usually). These flights
are not well-intentioned, and it is difficult to combat them and know what to do.
Swarms of drones (dozens of mini-drones flying in a coordinated way at the same time) no longer belong just to the realm of fiction. Indeed, with civilian drone technologies developing rapidly, this means that we are going to see even more malicious flights of drones in swarms.
Swarms of drones:
- Are resilient to potential response solutions
- Can rapidly saturate the detection systems
- Are elusive due to their variable geometries: they can concentrate or disperse quickly, which complicates their tracking and monitoring for those responsible for the
security of civil and industrial installations.
Detection and response solutions exist for one or two drones, but drones flying in swarms could easily saturate them. It is therefore important to prepare in order to:
- Understand the threat better
- Learn how to organize to face up to this type of situation
- Define solutions and procedures for protection in advance.
