6G R&D in Europe for the next 10 years

The purpose of this questionnaire is to examine the research and innovation perspectives on 6G in Europe, focusing on eight core areas (or topics) that can benefit from new ICT solutions:
 

• Cross-technology communication: integrating several types of networks together to ensure better performance, coverage and continuity of services (e.g. satcom integration)
• Intelligence Edge: getting closer to the user to deploy very low latency services, that benefit from decentralised decision-making and advanced IoT systems
• Extended reality sensing: interconnecting user equipment (e.g. VR/AR), sensors and robotics to create a new, multi-sense digital experience (e.g. telepresence, "Metaverse")
• Joint communication and sensing: using a single system to simultaneously sense the environment and communicate
• Network digital twinning: digitally replicating part of the network infrastructure and user equipments to anticipate deployment or usage scenarios (simulation, emulation, physical and digital infrastructures – testing before investing)
• Network planning, design and optimisation: ensuring that future networks and services meet the needs of subscribers (e.g. perceived performance), operators (e.g. location of transmitters), and regulators (e.g. EMF compliance)
• Network security, privacy and trust: ensuring end-to-end security and data protection in potentially distributed and highly constrained network nodes
• Time-sensitive networking: improving the control and prioritisation of data flows for low latency and guaranteed communications

 
The information collected will allow us to consolidate, prioritise, and add to these topics any others that might be missing.
