Issue
Renovating existing building stock is key to reaching climate and energy targets. For a significant part of this stock, interior insulation is the best solution to reduce heat loss and improve occupants’ thermal comfort. Currently, most interior renovations are made with thick solutions and result in a loss of living space.
Some thin solutions already exist on the market, like Thin Reflective Products (reflective foils) or Vacuum Insulating Panels. However, these solutions are either not effective enough or too complex to install on the job site.
This current project aims to identify promising high-performance insulating materials or systems that allow easy and fast installation on-site and are used not only in building applications, but in other areas as well. The materials must have a thermal conductivity that is < 18 mW/m.K.
