Wireless way to configure voltage monitoring relay

A voltage or current monitoring relay is an electronic device used to monitor the voltage or current in an electrical system.

The relay can be programmed with preset thresholds for each parameter. If any of these values fall below or exceed the preset threshold, the relay triggers an alarm or trips a circuit breaker to protect the system from damage due to undervoltage, overvoltage, phase loss, or incorrect phase sequence. 

The configuration of voltage and current thresholds in a monitoring relay can be achieved through various methods:

• Mechanical potentiometers
• LCD screen
• Near Field Communication (NFC)

While mechanical potentiometers offer a traditional approach, they may require more time and effort to adjust and may not be precise enough since parameter values are not visible. The incorporation of an LCD screen can add cost to the product compared to the other two options.

NFC communication with the relay appears to be the more advanced and practical method up to now.

NFC (Near Field Communication) technology is a short-range wireless communication technology that allows devices with NFC chips (ex: smartphones) to exchange data wirelessly over a distance of a few centimeters. It uses radio frequency signals (RF) to communicate between devices.

NFC technology can be used to communicate between a voltage monitoring relay and a smartphone by providing a convenient and easy way to adjust the relay settings without the need for physical access to the device. Using an NFC-enabled device such as a smartphone or tablet, an installer or maintenance technician can wirelessly (max. range of 5 cm) access the relay settings and configure the voltage thresholds levels and alarm settings.
